How would you describe yourself professionally?
Patient and unflappable. Devoted to my clients. Hard working. And authentic. One of my clients told me I was authentic recently, and that’s me. I am who I am.
How long have you been an agent?
I have been doing this for 18 years, and still loving every minute of it.
Before that you worked in the financial industry. How and why did you make that change?
Yes, I was an account manager in personal banking before I got into real estate. One of my clients at the bank was a REALTOR®, and after I took a year off work to be with my kids, I called him and he told me to go get my license. I did, and ended up working with him for about a year. He was a great mentor.
What attracted you to the real estate business?
The people. My favourite part of my old job was working with great clients, and I loved the idea of meeting wonderful people and finding them the perfect home, or making their selling experience easy and successful. Real estate felt great, right from the beginning. I knew I had found my perfect job.
And your financial background must be a huge asset for your clients …
Absolutely. When it comes to dealing with the bank, I am able to speak the financial language – it doesn’t intimidate me. I had some clients who were selling recently, and the penalty they were going to have to pay was ridiculous. I called the guy at the bank and clarified a few things, and they ended up getting a much better deal. I just know the questions to ask, which takes a lot of stress off my clients’ shoulders.
You have many clients who have come to you more than once. Building relationships is obviously important to you.
It’s everything. My clients trust me to give them my honest opinion on things – if we’re looking at a house and something is not right, I tell them. It’s not just about the sale… it’s about finding them the right property so they are happy in the long run. That’s where success comes from in this business. Nothing makes me happier than going back to see a client that is happy in their home, and sharing in that happiness and satisfaction.
What brings you happiness outside of your work?
I am very focused on my kids. They both just graduated from University! I love to cook, and I love to walk around my neighbourhood.
